When buying traits, is the modifier for Pro's and Cons just applied once irrespective of the rank that the trait is bought at? I know that i've not explained that clearly so i'll give an example.
I buy Athletics at rank 10 (costing me 8 Hero Dice), I also want to buy Martial Arts (+1D). So is the +1D for each rank of Athletics I buy making the cost 16 Hero Dice, or is the +1D just a 1 off cost regardless of the Rank in Athletics (So Athletics at Rank 10 with the Martial Arts Pro costs 8 Hero Dice + 1 for Martial Arts = 9
Thanks

It's the latter; Pros and Cons are applied once. Welcome to the club!

So with cons does that just give me 1 free point that I could spend anywhere I want. So if I buy the active trait in armor, can I then just point 1 more point into blast?

I suppose so. I prefer to think of it more that the trait with the Con costs one die less. You're still limited by the maximum trait rank based on your character's power level, but other than that, go for it!

However you think of it, THAT power costs you one die less, so you have one extra die to play with.

Yeah, I guess it depends on how you're thinking of allocating them. I guess all the rules are for making characters so you'd never be in a situation where you put 6 dice into armor and then decide to make it active, I was thinking of it more in a leveling situation like that. My players like to level so I think what I'm going to do is instead of XP I'll give them 1 or 2 hero dice at the end of a session to spend so that over time they will move up from Pulp to stronger superheroes.

That's there under the advancement section --see pp 66-67.
